Red Dirt Road ties seasons best with five in a row
He’s looking more and more like the All American that he should be. Yes, I am a little partial as he is our home dog, but his stats are phenomenal. So is his stamina! Red Dirt Road continued to impress Saturday night when he left the field in a ten-length wake that tied the seasons best time of 30.13-a time set by Red himself in July. The speedy male is dominating the 550-yard oval and will be a leading favorite in the upcoming $50,000 Fall Sprint that begins September 20.
Reward Trent scores the win Saturday
Reward Trent pulled off an impressive win by six lengths Saturday night that moved him in the top spot until his biggest nemesis Red Dirt Road joined him after Red scored a ninth season victory as well. Both top grade athletes are eyeing the prize in the upcoming Fall Sprint.
Kaias Sequoyah highlights Monday night races
Top grade veteran Kaias Sequoyah is eyeing his 61st career win tonight. Sequoyah who is celebrating his fourth birthday this month continues to be a worthy opponent against his younger rivals. Tonight, he competes with an upcoming pup, Dream Warrior and an NGA top dollar dog KB’s Sifter. Sequoyah is the early favorite and is expected to show the field the way to the finish line. Kaias Sequoyah is a kennel mate of Red Dirt Road.
Monday night notes:
Race 1: Rita By The Sea is on her way back to the top. The triple drop won her grade D race last week and should repeat tonight in the first half of the Daily Double.
Race 4: Barts Topnotch is seeking a sixth quiniela finish and third win in his last seven starts. The Bluffs Run import should be able to handle this field.
Race 6: KAIAS SEQUOYAH goes for 61.
Race 8: CTW Westernstyle drew an inside post again and could score a second in a row. He will break from post two. Over The Rhine has been a consistent money finisher and is expected to give Style a run for the money tonight.
Race 10: Silver Chestnut fell from a three-way tie in the top spot last week when Flying Macbeth stole the win. Tonight Chestnut hopes to score the win from an unfavorable five post. Bobbye’s Donjuan will wear his favorite red blanket on track. Although left out of the program selections, Law’s Titan could surprise.
Race 11: Dewey Randy left the maiden ranks after four starts in a ten length victory over his rivals last week. Can the pup make it a back-to-back win tonight? Stay tuned.
HURRICANE WATCH
Hurrican Ike could be heading our way this week. Derby Lane information will be listed here at Vera’s News regarding schedule changes or track closings.

Race 1: Onyx Walker is overdue for a win. The double grade drop is posted favorably on the rail.
Race 4: M's Grace is making her maiden debut today after winning by six lengths in her final schooling. Her sister M's Morgan has won back-to-back races.
Race 6: Bold Visa is back on track after a stint at Palm Beach. The female broke her maiden at Derby Lane and was a top grade athlete here before leaving the area. Race 10: Lamorge General could march to the front in this top grade field. Topaz Walker who moved into the top grade last start hopes for a back to back win.

Race 8: Greys Touch Gold, the Derby winner, will still be a favorite that is expected to pick off the front runners for the win. Rainingonsunday, who is Red Dirt Road's sister, is expected to jump out on top. Kay Buffalo Bill prefers to break from the inside, but will be a strong threat if he gets out early.
Race 10: Red Dirt Road is going for five in a row. He moved into a three-way tie for the top slot Wednesday night and a win could move him into a solo spot if his rival, Reward Trent fails to score the win in race 6. Race 14: Rosey Rookie is running well and has posted six consecutive quinielas. Backwood Legend, who was a superfecta finisher to Red Dirt Road in his past two starts should be a favorite in this field that wraps up the weekend action.
Thursday September 4, 2008
Red Dirt Road and Flying Macbeth move to top slot
Last night's racing saw Red Dirt Road and Flying Macbeth win their heats and join Reward Trent in a three-way tie as "top dogs". Red and Macbeth have been rivals for over a year. Macbeth ruled the majority of last season's meet, but in the final days Red rallied by snatching the top dog slot away from Macbeth and bumping Macbeth's season's fastest time.
Red Dirt Road has continued on the fast track this meet setting the fastest sprint time at 31.13 in July. While both have earned their share of ink, it was Reward Trent who emerged in the headlines and captured the most wins until last night. Reward Trent's loss earlier this week allowed the two to catch him. Red Dirt Road clocked a blazing 30.25 in race six Wednesday night and Flying Macbeth passed the leader in the stretch to score his 8th win of the meet and head the first half of the Twin Trifecta wager. Jack's Jet brought in the back half of the wager and fans that played the 1-4-2 in race 11 followed by a 1-4-2 in race 13 collected $4,616.20 for each Twin Trifecta ticket. The jackpot is forced out every Wednesday night.
Thursday notes:
Race 2: Sheriff Dawson's performances have been disappointing of late. The bet favorite in four of her last six starts has not performed up to her potential. Tonight could change all of that as she competes in grade D as a triple drop again.
Race 4: Hilary Rose is seeking a third win in four starts tonight as she competes in the higher "B" level against grade "A" drops TMC's Heartthrob and Craigie Penske.
Race 6: A McAllister pair could bring in the quiniela. Flying Regent (1) and Kiowa Bingo Man (6) are expected to light the board. TK Rapala (3) and Jack's Gladiator (2) could make up the superfecta.
Race 8: Malwa Champ is on a winning spree seeking the hat trick tonight. Designer Angel, waiting to move back to the longer course, should be a late threat and light the board.
Race 10: Flyin Home Depot is looking for a third win and sixth quiniela finishes in seven starts tonight as he faces off with strong rivals. Depot will wear the red blanket and will be the betting favorite but Designer Style could upset if she breaks out on top. TMC's Trail Boss and M's Westpoint will also be looking to jump ahead of the pack at the break. PPE Decorum is a recent maiden making her debut in the top grade tonight and is seeking the hat trick against this tough field.
Twin Trifecta Jackpot forced out Wenesday night
Tri-Super begins over $23,000 Wednesday matinee
Red & Macbeth highlight Wednesday night
Tonight and every Wednesday night the Twin Trifecta jackpot is forced out. The Twin Trifecta is played in races 11 & 13.
Last night's races saw Flying Havana upset Reward Trent's attempt at a ninth win, which opened the door for Red Dirt Road and Flying Macbeth to tie the champion in the top spot. Red Dirt Road will be on deck first in race six competing against Flying Nirvana who won her last start. Flying Macbeth will seek his win in race 11-the first half of the Twin Trifecta tonight. Also in Macbeth's race is Silver Chestnut who is also tied with Macbeth and Red. Chestnut attempted a hat trick last start which saw him encounter trouble. AND, not to be overlooked is Kaias Sequoyah going for three in a row. Sequoyah is also looking for win number eight to move into the top slot.
Wednesday matinee:
Race 1: Godfather, a triple grade drop and TMC's Tornado a double drop could be the quiniela for the first half of the Daily Double.
Race 2: Backwood Cash is making his maiden debut after two schooling wins.
Race 6: Deco Ellen Alone drew favorably on the rail and her early speed could take her to the front for the win. Law's Titan, the fastest in the field, could win a third race in his last four starts.
Race 8: Jack's Turbo and KB's Sifter have dropped in grade and could be the quiniela.
Race 10: Dream Warrior may have been left out of the program picks but he and his littermates are doing well. He is the least experienced among the field but is a worthy opponent. WW Jungle Dizzy is back on track after a four-month layoff. Dizzy made it all the way to the semifinals of the Gold Trophy Juvenile earlier this year. Today is his first start since then.
Wednesday night notes:
Race 6: Red Dirt Road and Flying Nirvana will go "paw to paw" as both seek the top grade win. Red's agenda is to move back into the top spot. Backwood Legend, a Palm Beach import, makes his second official start. He will wear the red blanket.
Race 8: Kay Buffalo Bill is posted perfectly on the rail, but a battle of the sexes could see Flying Midnite-the season's fastest distance runner, keep him at bay.
Race 11: Flying Macbeth and Silver Chestnut both want the win in this race that would move them into a three way tie in the top dog slot. Kaias Sequoyah, who was featured in last Saturday's St. Petersburg Times is also in the field. Sequoyah is looking for three in a row. A win for him would be big if he upsets this field in the first half of the Twin Trifecta.
Race 13: The Twin Trifecta jackpot will be paid after this race runs. Jack's Jet is the leading favorite in post one. Kiowa Cry For Me is expected to jump to the lead as always and light the board.
Tuesday September 2
Tri Super Jackpot starts over $21,000 tonight
Both Tri Super and Twin Trifecta jackpots are climbing. The Tri Super starts at $21,940 and is played in races 5 and 7. The Twin Trifecta, played in races 11 & 13, begins at $7,031 and is forced out every Wednesday Night.
Reward Trent seeks 9th season won
The greyhounds are back on track tonight with first post at 7:30 after a matinee only performance yesterday. Headlining tonight's action is the top dog Reward Trent. The current win leader makes his 14th run around the oval seeking a 9th season win. The son of track record holder Trent Lee celebrates his second birthday this month. Trent Lee competes in race six and will wear the red blanket. Among the group is Legends Field who boasts over 50 career wins. Legends Field is also seeking a second in a row along with Jack's Cannon, TNJ Snow Cone and Flying Havana.
More Tuesday notes:
Race 1: Craigie Besse's winning effort last start might give her a win tonight if she gets to the lead quickly to bring in the first half of the Daily Double.
Race 2: Irish Angel could follow her sisters with a victory over the longer course. WW Shys Drawing could upset from the inside rail post.
Race 4: Wanna Rumble, sister to Irish Angel, was the nearest threat to the winner in her last start from post eight. Tonight, she breaks from the rail. Imperial Cruz returns to the longer distance tonight after three troubled races over the shorter run. She will be a favorite from the outside eight.
Race 6: Reward Trent vs Legends Field
Race 8: CTW On The Plaza who has been inactive for six weeks returns tonight after two wins in schooling. Rested and ready he should light the board.
Race 10: Fly Bye Popstar hopes to bounce back after his hat trick attempt was halted last week. Popstar is sitting well in the outside seven and is expected to be the betting favorite. El Moonstruck, in post two, won from the same box three starts prior to tonight.
Race 12: Extreme is going for his third in a row. He is a littermate of Dream Deliverer who scored the grade A win yesterday afternoon over the bet favorite Silver Draft. Extreme and his littermates have gained much attention as the first group of pups sired by Derby Lane's former champion, Flashy Sir winner and All American Extruding Dream.
Congratulations go out to CJC's Neonlights and all of his connections for winning the Palm Beach Puppy Stakes. The race was simulcast at Derby Lane.

Race 8: $200 Cash Drawing. Deco Essa has the early speed to get out on top and could see BBR Chaoscreater on her heels. Despite her unimpressive lines, WW's Snow Shovel has the ability to beat the field as she has clocked the best time of the group.
Race 9: $200 Cash Drawing. USS Obedience is a pup finding her way up the graded ladder gradually. She is 7 of 8 in the trifecta and could score her third win. No Ones Business is the program favorite that will break from the rail post.
Race 10: $200 Cash Drawing. The outside posts are where the top contenders in this grade "A" race lie. Pro Jack (6) gave a winning effort last start from the seven. Kiowa Ice Man is 12 of 13 in the money this meet and Lamorge Venus is seeking the top grade win from the same outside eight that she won from last Wednesday matinee.
Race 11: M's Morgan won her maiden debut last week and hopes the later race won't affect her ability to pull off two in a row.
Race 12: PJ's Iwantitall might have it all if she can beat the box. Flying Eagle is expected to bounce back after a troubled race last week. Kiowa Muse will be a strong threat if he gets near the front early.
Race 13: WS's Keegan is a double drop in this "D" field. Hessian Soldier, the program favorite, drew the same four post that watched him run last in his previous start.
Race 14: Victory King Me is seeking a repeat win from an inside box. Last week he took the lead in the first turn and never looked back from post three. He will wear the red blanket against this field.
Derby Lane will offer wagering on the Palm Beach $20,000 Labor Day Puppy Stakes Monday afternoon. The stakes is the 12th race on their card featuring three pups sired by former Derby Lane champions. Former top grade stakes competitor WW Greys Drifter sired RS Dodge Dandy (6) and SL Curly (7) is sired by Stan's Boy Flyer-a former top dog and mulitple stakes winner at Derby Lane who began his racing career at Palm Beach. Best of luck to all!
McAllister kennel back on top
Tri-Super Jackpot kicks off Friday night at $11,718
The McAllister kennel wasted no time in regaining the top spot in the standings. McAllister was two wins behind Filipelli & O'Donnell last week, but has pulled ahead by four heading into the Labor Day weekend races.
Weekend races include Red Dirt Road
Fan favorite Red Dirt Road hopes for a repeat performance when he heads to post in race 10 Saturday night. Before Red's feature his littersister Raininonsunday will go "paw to paw" with St. Pete Derby winner Greys Touch Gold in race 8 Saturday night.
Friday Night upper grades:
Race 6: Fordham and Hi Noon Hypnotic face off as both seek the hat trick in this TB distance race. Fordham and Hypnotic might be taken back as both just moved into this grade that features several grade "A" drops.
Race 10: Law's Titan is looking for a third in a row sprint win and is the early favorite. Kiowa AK Kieffer who pulled off a major upset two starts ago could do it again from the inside three box. Both will face off with Kaias Sequoyah whose blazing speed is well-known. Bobbye's Donjuan should not be discounted from the trifecta.
Race 12: Another TB distance race features littersisters Cynthia Smoot, seeking two in a row, and her sister Beautiful N Red who will be wearing the yellow six blanket. The Magic City pair will be threatened by McAllister's Flying Dawn and late speedster WW's Breakstone from the Ward kennel.
Saturday Matinee top grades:
Race 6: KB's Sifter is having difficulty in this top grade since his "B" win on August 16. The high-priced pup has had his share of disappointments and could upset, despite his absence in the superfecta picks. Designer Style could repeat her box to wire run from the same three box. Kiowa Bingo Man will need to rely on his fleet-footed ways and favorable inside two post to score the win. TMC's Heartthrob is a consistent superfecta finisher.
Race 10: WW's Fox Hunter drew favorably in post two against the box-breaking Craigie May (8). Bobbye's Digger is also a speedy foe who could take the lead for a box to wire victory.
Saturday Night:
Race 3: Backwood Lecture is an import from Palm Beach. He has been off since June after four starts in maiden at Palm Beach. He won both schoolers and makes his St. Pete maiden debut.
Race 4: Patchouli Drive returns after a two month rest. Patchouli was winning grade A last meet and could ace the race upon his return.
Race 6: Silver Chestnut (3) is going for three in a row. He is among the top five sprinters this meet and will be a favorite. His strongest rivals M's Westpoint (1) and Flying Regent (2)
Derby Lane's All American hopeful Red Dirt Road left his rivals in a blazing 13-length wake Wednesday night as the La Rosa Enterprises' champion brought it in the first half of the Twin Trifecta, clocking a 30.32. Starz Ming and PJ's Iwantitall made up the 6-4-8 combination. Flyin Home Depot did not disappoint his backers that made him the favorite in the back half of the wager. The Twin Trifecta Jackpot is forced out EVERY WEDNESDAY NIGHT. Home Depot won handily from post eight followed by Silver Draft (5) and Bobbye's Diego (3) that paid each Twin Trifecta winner $3,913.80.
Thursday night
Reward Trent seeks to extend top spot
Top dog Reward Trent is seeking a repeat win and his ninth of the new season. The Magic City star is the current win leader by one win. Reward Trent is featured in race 10 tonight and is the early favorite. Flying Chain who is seeking a repeat win from the same one post that he won from last Saturday matinee could be Trent's biggest threat.

Race 2: Bart's Ozzie has been bumped around in his past few starts. Watch for him to light the board in this field.
Race 3: M's Safaire is a new pup from Floyd & Porter who is debuting in maiden after scoring back to back schooling wins.

News for Monday 08/25/08
Fly Bye Popstar's incredible run Friday night
Red Dirt Road sizzles in Saturday's feature
"Top Dog" Reward Trent competes Monday night
Fly Bye Popstar gave an outstanding performance last Friday night. The 72-pound male came from far back to score the top grade win by a nose at the wire. He gets your pulse racing as you watch his come from behind victory. To view the race click on Racing, then Replays Archive. From there you will select the August 22 date, evening races and then race 10. Enjoy and congratulations to Magic City and trainer Doug Flint and to Fly Bye Popstar.
Saturday night fans watched Red Dirt Road keep his 100% money record in tact this meet when he scorched the track in 30.54-the fastest time in 14 cards. Red's box to wire win by five and a half-lengths at the wire returned $3.40 for the win.
Reward Trent still holds the top spot with seven wins and competes in race six Monday night. The son of Derby Lane's track record holder Trent Lee is seeking his fifth win in his last seven starts and his eighth of the meet. Kiowa AK Kieffer could challenge Trent if Kieffer breaks out on top. Kieffer gave an award winning performance on August 15, when he upset the mighty Flying Macbeth.
Other Monday notes:
Race 4: Kaias Sequoyah is the class of the field in this grade "B" event. Despite the fact that he is the oldest in the field, the veteran does know his way around the oval.
Race 5: Lady V Luck hopes she will have better luck than three of her littermates who competed over the weekend. She has had two troubled races since a win on Aug. 12. She will need to get to the front early. Hallo Telcom who scored the win from the outside eight last start is the early favorite from post eight.
Race 6: Reward Trent vs Kiowa AK Kieffer
Race 7: Rita By The Sea is very overdue. The double grade drop is not a program favorite, but she has performed better than her lines suggest.
Race 8: BBR Gettinroundu is seeking the hat trick. His kennelmate BBR Flyin Finish hopes to do just that. It could be a Rian Racing quiniela. Watch for a one-two punch from McAllister with Flying Dawn and Kay Cocoa Puff.
Race 10: Flying Regent is the early favorite in this top grade field that features several nice hounds. Law's Titan ran an impressive race last week that moved him to the top grade. He is also the fastest in this field. Deco Ellen Alone will be a strong force and if she gets in front of the field she is capable of an upset. Jack's Turbo prefers an inside but you can't discount his abilities. Craigie May drew the rail post where she recorded a win from on August 2. Born To Dream put forth a winning effort last outing and could light the board.
Race 14: Sheriff Dawson who competed in the St. Pete Derby should be able to score a win in this grade "C" distance field. Barts Trolleycar, an import from Bluffs Run has won distance races in Iowa and courses the long distance for a second time since his arrival. Fordham who was moved to the backside last outing, won distance races last meet.

Red Dirt Road back on track Saturday night
The top sprinters are eyeing the first stakes of the news season that begins next month. The second annual Fall Sprint begins September 20. During the next few weeks kennels will be deciding which of their top grade athletes will represent them in this year's event. La Rosa Enterprises hopes to see their champion Red Dirt Road score a second stakes win this year. Red who was top dog last meet is carrying a perfect money record this season with 7-4-2-0-1. And Red Dirt Road was the fastest sprinter last year and is currently the fastest this meet with a 30.13 recorded in July.
Red Dirt Road will compete Saturday night August 23 in race six. Flying Havana who won this past Monday night and top grade money finishers Sol Deli and Tahoe Nights are expected to light the board.
Friday Night notes:
Race 4: Legends Field is the class of the field and just dropped out of the top grade last start. Legends Field is the oldest in the race. He has been a fine athlete for the Floyd & Porter kennel. Field's litter brothers Hometown Boy and Brady Thomas retired earlier this year.
Race 6: Dream Deliverer will really be tested in this top grade field. The young female with just nine starts under her belt will face-off with a highly experienced field. She is among the newest "dream team" sired by former champion Extruding Dream. Lamorge Venus, Flying Kiska and Flying Eagle are expected to give the pup a run for the money.
Race 9: Eminence Cruz could score the win after running two big races. A dead-heat for third followed by a second by a head could see Cruz cross first tonight.
Race 10: Fearless Fella and Kiowa Muse are also youngsters that have made impressions on their way to the top grade. The two juveniles also face a fine field of veteran sprinters and will also be tested. Fella is a "dreamy" guy with the same bloodlines that produced last year's All American Dreamy Blossom. Fella is fleet-footed and is expected to go "paw to paw" with Flyin Home Depot from the start. Fly Bye Popstar who gave an outstanding performance last start over Red Dirt Road, has drawn favorably in post seven.
Race 12: Lamorge Sweetums should move back to grade B tonight. She was overtaken near the wire last outing, but has the best early speed in this field.
Race 15: Taylor Swift could sing a winning tune for a third straight race tonight. She has thrilled her backers with come from behind victories. BD's Foxworth, a grade "A" drop has been installed as the program favorite.
Saturday Matinee
Race 1: Silver Rumor is a pup on the move seeking her third win in four official starts. She is a pup to note as she moves up the graded ladder.
Race 6: Jack's Speedster (2) is posted favorably even though he has been left out of the program selections. Kelsos Clarence who is also omitted, drew the outside seven. Although he likes his post, Clarence has no early speed and will need to make up ground to catch the leaders.
Race 7: USS Obedience is another impressive juvenile who has been the betting favorite in every one of her starts. She is carrying a perfect 6 out of 6 trifecta finishes and won her last start by seven lengths. The 62-pound female is well matched with the grade "C" field and will more than likely be the betting favorite again.
Race 8: Backwood Hombre is finding his way around the Derby oval since importing from Palm Beach. He has won two of his three races since schooling back from troubled races.
Race 10: U Too Darla has the early speed to rocket to the front, but can she hold on in this top grade field? Flying Chain is very overdue for a win. El Moonstruck and Pro Jack won their last starts and could come out swinging. The only juvenile among the veterans is Dream Warrior who makes his 11th official trip around the oval.
Saturday Night
Race 1 & Race 3: Littermates could score wins for Capabal kennel. Victory King Me who dropped from grade "B" could get back on a winning track. His brother Johnny Carson in race three, has had the most trips around the oval in maiden. Johnny also drew the coveted rail post that he has sought in other races.
Race 6: RED DIRT ROAD boasts incredible stamina that has seen the champion male collect 19 quiniela finishes in his past 21 starts with a third and fourth place finish that gives him a perfect money record since April. Red has only been out of the trifecta two times in four months. What a champion! He will undoubtedly be the favorite in this race.
Race 8: Flying Midnite, the season's fastest distance athlete, will be in a battle of the sexes when she faces off with Greys Blak Smith. Smith is Midnite's biggest early speed rival. Wanna Rumble hopes she can follow her litter-sister Cynthia Smoot that won her distance race on Thursday.
Race 10: Spock is a third littermate from Capabal kennel featured tonight. The first two King Me and Johnny Carson compete in races one and three. Spock might need to be beamed in front of this top grade field as it is Spock's first start in grade "A".
Race 15:Nova kennel's El Peppi can't be overlooked after two big efforts. Peppi was nosed out last start and is expected to give another winning effort with hopes of wrapping up the weekend with a win.

Flying Macbeth back on track race 6 tonight
Twin Trifecta Jackpot Forced out Tonight
Today's double header features several nice races, but all eyes will be watching Flying Macbeth tonight as he hopes to bounce back after Saturday's defeat and tie the top spot for season wins tonight. Macbeth drew the inside three and will face-of with Craigie May who has won three of her last six starts and Ballet Lady who put forth a winning effort from far behind to score a second place finish last week. Another lady hoping to keep the male from succeding is TMC's Heartthrob that moved to the top grade in a six-length victory last Friday night. Jack's Gladiator and WW's Fox Hunter are the only other males in this female dominated top grade field.
Wednesday Matinee notes:
Race 2: Chuck's Love won two of his official schoolers and debuts in maiden today and is most likely to be a favorite.
Race 4: Gutsy Gal is Chuck's littersister making her debut today as well.
Race 6: Lamorge Mars is seeking the hat trick for Alderson kennel today, but could be challenged by CTW Some Day Now and Bobbye's Donjuan.
Race 8: Kay Flycatcher has returned after a three month layoff. Swift Lightening is seeking three in a row as she is moving up the graded ladder in her seventh official start.
Race 9: Sol Nitro is another returning athlete who was sidelined. Nitro drew a favored rail post for his return after four months off.
Race 10: KB's Sifter could repeat after his big win last week, clocking the fastest time (30.63) last Saturday matinee. Tahoe Nights is a consistent finisher not to be discounted. Imperial Cruz competes in his first sprint race this meet after scoring a victory on August 12 over the 660-yd. course.
Wednesday Night notes:
Race 4: Leta's Triumph goes for three in a row, but might be halted by Flying Swale who is overdue for a win.
Race 6: FLYING MACBETH is loking for his seventh win in eleven starts.
Race 8: St. Pete Derby winner Greys Touch Gold and her kennelmate Castle Princess hope to give D'Arcy kennel the quiniela in this distance race. Kelsos Jackflash could steal the show with his winning pattern of every other race. If he follows the pattern he scores tonight.
Race 10: Backwood Hombre is also seeking a hat trick tonight. City Place who won by 14 lengths in his schooler last week could make a big comeback tonight.
Race 11: First half of the Twin Trifecta features a fine field worthy of Hot Box status. Kaias Sequoyah who has had two troubled trips around the oval could get loose from the middle of the pack. Greys Nightfever drew the coveted rail and is looking to make it three in a row. Deco Ellen Alone, the fleet-footed female, should be an early force. Jack's Turbo is seeking his fourth win in seven starts. Kiowa AK Kieffer was a scene stealer last Saturday when he was the upset winner over Flying Macbeth. Flying Regent prefers an inside box, but has been installed as the program favorite from post six.
Race 13: The Twin Trifecta Jackpot will be forced out in this race. Kiowa Bingo Man is the only front runner in this field and should get out on top. TNJ SNow Cone scored a win from post eight last outing, but might not be able to repeat from the rail post tonight. Deco Cargo will break from the same three box that he won last week's grade C race from. WW Hey Spanky just missed winning two in a row last week and is expected to put forth another winning effort tonight.

Derby Lane will open for simulcast wagering and poker at 11:30 AM today (Tuesday). The live action races for tonight were cancelled in conjunction with the mandatory evacuation notice that was put in motion yesterday by city and county officials. At 5:00 AM this morning Pinellas County officials lifted the evacuation notice due to the eastward turn of the storm last night. For the safety of the greyhounds the decision was made yesterday to give kennel personnel time to make preparations. To quote many of our city and state officials, "it is better to be safe than sorry." The greyhounds will remain safe in their kennels.
Live action racing resumes tomorrow matinee. Gates open 11:30 for a double header. Matinee post is 12:30 PM. Night post is 7:30 PM.
We are very fortunate here in the bay area and although safe from a direct impact, we are expecting scattered showers today with high wind gusts. It will be a perfect day for indoor activities at Derby Lane.

Flyin Bridgeport Retires

Flying Bridgeport offically retired after his August 2 race where it was clear moments after the break that something was wrong. The 2007 Flashy Sir recipient and All America Team member recently schooled back after time off. Bridgeport appeared rested and ready for his return.
According to Malcolm McAllister his star distance champion tore a hind muscle and would be retired. Bridgeport has returned to his home in KS and owner Vince Berland where he will stand as sire.
Bridgeport was on track to cinch a second Flashy Sir. He was a back-to-back winner in the Distance Classic earlier this year and would have defended his title in the 660-yard challenge in December. Bridgeport will still be nominated from Derby Lane for top honors despite his retirement.
Weekend upsets
The top headliners were upset over the weekend. Friday night Kiowa AK Kieffer rushed to the front and upset Flying Macbeth who encountered early trouble. Race 4: Evening Blossom drew unfavorably outside but is a classy pup on her way to the top. Weekend News
Tri Super Jackpot starts at $32,405 for Friday Night
Reward Trent is top dog
Friday night the Tri Super jackpot begins over $32,000. The wager is available in races five and seven. Last night's first half favorite Hessian Soldier scored the win followed by Lostlands Clint and CJC's Predator brining in the 1-2-8, but TK Griffin's longshot win in race seven kept the jackpot going for this weekend. Zim Bam Boom and Godfather are more than likely to be favorites in Friday's first half ticket. Fly Bye Katlyn could bring in the back half from the outside eight in post seven.
Magic City and McAllister continue to battle it out for the top spot. Heading into this weekend Magic City is slightly in front by two wins. Magic City is top in the standings and his Reward Trent is also top dog. Reward Trent is the son of Trent Lee who holds the track record of 29.59. Reward is just one win in front of Flying Macbeth. Both are competing this weekend.
Friday Night notes:
Race 5: First half of the Tri Super. Jackpot starts over $32,000.
Race 6: Kaias Sequoyah is expected to rebound after his attempt at the hat trick was hampered last start. Sequoyah will be a favorite along with Lamorges Aces Up who was also seeking a threepeat when he was bumped last start. Greys Nighfever could repeat from the same eight box he scored a win from last Saturday night.
Race 7: Back half of the Tri Super.
Race 8: Beautiful N Red finally got a break and will not be competing against one of her littermates. She is running well and should light the board. Flying Dawn who just dropped from "A" is poised for a win.
Race 10: Flying Macbeth who won last Saturday night's Hot Box is the early favorite to score his 10th race of the meet. Macbeth is just one win away from tying the top spot.
Race 14: Cynthia Smoot (Beautiful N Red's sister) just missed by a nose on Tuesday night. Kelso's Grid Iron is expected to challenger her.
Saturday Matinee notes:
Race 6: Legends Field is expected to shake off his last two troubled races and score the win. Jack's Turbo is favorably posted in the one box. Dream Deliverer who is coursing the oval for a ninth career start might have her work cut out for her.
Race 8: Fearless Fella, a fine pup with a perfect percentage, will be a favorite in this race. SL Hey Babe was shipped from CO and makes her first FL debut.
Race 10:PJ's Iwantitall coudl have it all if she uses her fast breaking style against this field. Craigie May should light the board as well as Silver Draft.
Race 14: Chaska Hole Card is going for three in a row.
Saturday Night notes:
Race 4: Hallo Warp Speed drew favorably and dropped from "A" his last start. With just eight career starts Extruder is expected to light the board against this veteran group.
Race 2: Lamorge Mars could repeat his win from another inside post. Tuesday night he won by a nose from post one. Tonight he faces his rivals from box two.
Race 8: Flying Midnight is seeking the hat trick over the longer course. Midnite is the season's fastest (37.14). Wanna Rumble won her last distance race and hopes to repeat. Greys Blak Smith has been breaking on top but getting caught in the homestretch. He might hold this field off if he steals a big lead.
Race 10: Red Dirt Road, a fan favorite, highlights the Saturday night feature. Jack's Gladiator is seeking three in a row. Kiowa Muse, who is the least experienced in the field, will have his work cut out for him. Muse, who broke maiden on July 24 makes his ninth official trip around the Derby oval against the high caliber field. Flying Swindler has won half of his last six races as well as Bobbye's Donjuan. Fly Bye Popstar has drawn unfavorably in post one, but could be a late threat if he avoids trouble.
Race 12: Reward Trent goes for the hat trick in a continued attempt to remain "top dog". The Magic City star is all alone at the moment with 10-7-1-0. His biggest nemesis is Flying Macbeth who will attempt to tie Trent's record on Friday.

Tonight's Tri Super, played in races 5 & 7 will start at $30,654.00. The veterans in this race could be the trifecta. Lostlands Clint, in post two, has had over 40 trips around the oval as well as CJC's Predator (8) with 27 offiical starts and Bow Hercules with 41. The remaining field averages 10 starts each.
The back half wager in race 7 is equally as hard to pick with several of the contenders posting recent schooling lines. Are You Kidding (2) has seen several of his sisters score wins in the past week over the 660-yard course. He took time off in May and drew favorably in post two in the shorter race. Kickin Kevin (6) put forth a winning effort last time out and could win tonight. Kiowa Patty Sue (7) and BBR Lightinflash (8) could complete the superfecta for a possible jackpot payout.
More Thursday Notes:
Race 4: Priority is the fastest in this field and could move up to the top grade tonight. M's Sweet Ethan was a close fourth last start and could upset the field.
Race 5 & 7 Tri-Super- Jackpot starts over $30,000 tonight!
Race 8: This fine field of top grade sprinters is full of speed. TMC's Trail Boss and Lamorge Streaker are sure to go "paw to paw" at the start of the race. Silver Chestnut, who was featured in last Saturday's Hot Box could bounce back after his eighth place finish. McAllister will have the inside covered with his pair Flying Snap Off (1) and Flying Regent (2).
Last night the Twin Trifecta Jackpot was forced out as it is every Wednesday night. The speedy favorite Reward Trent won the first half followed by Bobbye's Digger and Kiowa Iceman. The 8-1-6 combination allowed everyone with a first half ticket to cash in the back half when BJ El Tigre, also the bet favorite, crossed first followed by Pfannys Bullrun and Winston. The all-all-all paid $233.60 for each ticket.
August 13, 2008
Twin Trifecta Jackpot forced out every Wednesday Night
Tri Super Jackpot starts at $29,440 Wednesday Night
Wednesday Matinee notes:
Race 1: Lostlands Bonnie drew favorably with the one box today. She is overdue for a win and could be the first half of the Daily Double.
Race 2: Johnny Carson could make it a Capabal kennel Daily Double if he scores the win in his fifth maiden start of the meet.
Race 3: Jack's Rocket is one of several new pups in the Cal Holland kennel making their debut. They are the second litter on track sired by Derby Lane's former dual distance superstar Extruding Dream. Watch for the Extruding Dreams and Leta's Superstar making their debut.
Race 5: TMC's Remedy, Craigie Snell and Craigie May are the solid top grade runners in this field. The expected trifecta could encounter a glitch if Jack's Cannon gets loose.
Race 7: Silver Rumor is a pup to watch from Charter kennel. Sired by Derby Lane's 2003 Puppy Preview and season's win leader Lonesome Cry, Silver Rumor is expected to score a back-to-back win today.
Race 10: Jack's Speedster hopes to give Cal Holland kennel another top grade win like his brother, Jack's Gladiator, did last night. Gladiator pulled away from the field from post four. Today, Speedster will attempt the win from the ouside seven.
Race 12: Victory King Me-a pup I have been watching since he arrived, should be able to handle this field. Pistol Grip Pump, who has been off since April, could be rested and ready for a showdown with the youngster.
Wednesday Night notes:
Race 5: First half of the Tri-Super pits two recent Palm Beach imports Hilary Rose and Royal Lass against Kiowa Talkmystic who raced at Hollywood through June. Mystic finished second in his debut race last week and will be a favorite in this field.
Race 6: Backwood Country's streak was snapped last week at three in a row. He could get back to his winning ways tonight but Fly Bye Popstar is in the six and likes to compete from the outside. The fleet-footed PJ's Iwantitall who moved to the top grade might score a back-to-back win.
Race 7: Bob's Recluse will get a lot of play in this back half of the Tri Super race. He is only one in the field with blazing box speed and should get a big jump on his rivals. WW Deana Bits is a maiden moving up with four money finishes in five starts. Leta's Alibi is a superfecta finisher and Respectability is posted favorably in the outside eight.
Race 8: St. Pete Derby winner Greys Touch Gold will face off with the season's fastest Flying Midnite.Kelsos Jackflash has won three of his last six starts and is 7 of 9 in the money. Kiowa Sara Shook is also 7 of 9 in the money and should not be discounted in the superfecta.
Race 10: Fearless Fella is another pup on the "watch list". Actually, the entire litter from Maryville Rumble* x Valoris are noteworthy. Fella is 5 of 6 in the quiniela with three wins.
Race 11: Reward Trent has won six races in his nine starts this meet and will be the favorite tonight. Sired by the track record holder Trent Lee, Reward's biggest challenger is most likely Flying Swindler who has scored four wins in his last six races. Swindler went box to wire by seven lenghts from the same two post he drew tonight. Kiowa Ice Man could be part of the first half ticket.
Race 13: The Jackpot will be paid out tonight no matter what the amount in the Twin Trifecta. Pfannys Bullrun is sure to get a lot of play as the male recently dropped from grade A and turned in a second place finish his last start. Evening Blossom, the sister to Fearless Fella (race 10) will also be a favorite. Picking the third place finisher might be a tough task, but Jack's Cupid is deserving. He is running well and gave a winning effort last time out.
August 12, 2008
Derby Lane not just for racing!
Last Friday's 08/08/08 promotions offered an added bonus to fans on track that saw a beautiful infield wedding ceremony. The bride glided across the bridge to meet her husband to be. The weather was perfect and the couple appeared to be a perfect pair. Friends and family met afterwards in the Sports Bar for a reception. The final song of the nice, what else? Who let the dog's out! Best of wishes and a happy life to Jennifer and Lou.
Tri-Super over $26,000 tonight
Last night's jackpots continued to grow. The Twin Trifecta jackpot that is always paid out every Wednesday night is over $7,000 and the Tri Super is over $26,000 for Tuesday night's races.
Tuesday notes:
Race 3: Siblings Rio Rico and Gotta Be Going compete for the maiden win tonight against Jack's Shadow making his first official appearance.
Race 4: Extruder will course the oval for his eighth career start seeking a fourth win. The youngster has finished in the money every start on his quest to the top grade.
Race 5: First half of the Tri Super could see Rooftop Iggy hold on from the outside eight. He was nosed out from the six box last week. Fast N Smart has drawn his first inside post in six starts. Tonight is his seventh career start. Although he races outside, his only win was from the one box. Kaias Faustus could light the board.
Race 6: This top grade grop features Brother Derek seeking a repeat win as well as Jack's Gladiator who went box to wire in his last start. The early speedster Flying Swale could upset if he gets a big enough lead.
Race 8: Beautiful N Red has been left out of the picks but her along with her littermate Irish Angel could be the quiniela in this race.
Race 10: Dream Deliverer had her win streak snapped at four staight last week after a winning effort saw her finish second. The youngster will be tested against this impressive field that includes Legends Field, Ballet Lady and Deco Ellen Alone.
Race 12: Wanna Rumble is a fourth littermate from Magic City's Marville Rumble* x Wheelie Cool group seeking a distance win tonight.
Race 14: Sheriff Dawson is overdue for a win. The greyhound who was in the June Derby has dropped two grades and should be a favorite tonight. Reward Dee is also one to watch out for. She is the fastest in this field.
Tri-Super over $24,000 for Monday night
The Tri-Super is played in races 5 & 7
Macbeth is best in Summer Sizzler
Saturday night August 9 pitted a stellar field of sprinters together in a hot box feature that saw Flying Macbeth (Flying Hydrogen x Fuzzys Blueangel) prevail and scorch the track in a 30.47-the fastest clocked in four performances. The sizzling race was a tune-up for the high caliber field that will be seeking the Fall Sprint title next month.
Flying Macbeth has been a dual distance top performer for McAllister for over a year. The red male who turns three years old this month dominated the stats last meet until his biggest nemesis Red Dirt Road rallied in the final month to take away Macbeth’s best time and top dog status. Saturday night Macbeth got revenge as he beat the sturdy Red Dirt Road and pulled away from him to win his sixth race in nine starts. And Macbeth’s win kept his 100% money record in tact.
It was no surprise to see TMC’s Trail Boss burst out on top. The box-breaker gave it his all to be on top early but could not withstand the strong field behind him that saw Macbeth power his way to the lead by the first turn and pull away from his rivals for the win. Red Dirt Road was crowded early and came charging for second in the backstretch. Red was racing so fast that he nearly ran up on Trail Boss in the far turn. Lamorge Streaker turned in one of his best performances when he was pinched in the first turn but managed to pull off a third place finish. Trail Boss completed the superfecta.
A startling last place finish was seen by Silver Chestnut who was dominating the 550-yard oval with five wins in his last six top grade races. Chestnut was crowded early, but a last place finish by 18 lengths was unexpected for the third bet favorite in the field.
Flying Macbeth now boasts 9-6-2-0 for the new season. McAllister will defend the Fall Sprint title next month and Macbeth will be among his starters. McAllister won last year's race with Rural Rube recipient Flying Stanley.
August 7, 2008
Last night's card saw several impressive races that included Silver Chestnut
's nine-length romp. The Charter kennel star clocked a 30.38-the fastest of
the night. Greys Touch Gold showed why she cinched the June Derby when she
came off the pace for the grade A 660-yard win. Kaias Sequoyah headed the
first half of the Twin Trifecta wager in race 11. Lamorge Streaker was
second followed by Kiowa AK Kieffer. The 2-4-6 combination was worth an
entry into the jackpot that started over $13,000.
Brother Derek won handily followed by Topaz Walker and M's Sweet Ethan that
made the second half ticket a 5-6-7 winner. Each ticket was worth $2,183.20.
Two for one Fajitas tonight
Don't forget to bring a friend and share a great meal in the Plaza Sports
Bar. Tonight and every Thursday night is two for one chicken, steak, or
combo fajita dinners. The price for two is just $8.95. Sports Bar opens at
6:30 PM
Thursday night notes:
Tri-Super Jackpot starts over $17,000-Played in races 5 and 7
Race 4: Extruder is making his way to the top grade and seeks the hat trick
tonight. Extruder is on the watch list of pups debuting from Derby Lane's
former All American and Flashy Sir champion Extruding Dream. Extruder is the
least experienced of the group with just six starts under his belt. He
competes with veterans with as many as 70 starts. Bolo Whisper is also
seeking the hat trick in the race. Bolo's father is Dodgem By Design-also a
former stakes winner and All American.
Race 5: The first half of the Tri-Super could see Design Cooker upset from
the outside eight. He gave a winning effort last week from the same post
that produced a second place finish. TMC's Flash Back has been the betting
favorite four of his last six outings. He drew the same two box that he won
from last week.
Race 6: Dream Deliverer is another pup on the list and a full littersister
to Extruder. Dream Deliverer is going for five in a row tonight in her
seventh career start.
Race 7: Cross My Mind gave a winning effort last start, but it was from the
inside three. He competes from the outside eight in the back half of the Tri
Super. Kaias Cherokee burst out on top last and set the pace. He could set
the pace again and possibly hold on for the win. KB's Moody Blue also gave a
winning effort last, but settled for second. All three are likely candidates
for the superfecta as well as Designer Pooch who always puts forth an extra
late effort.
Race 10: Starz Missa who was shipped from Tri State didn't fare well in her
first official start. She is back on track but faces Ballet Lady and Silver
Draft who are in favorable posts.
August 6, 2008
Twin Trifecta over $10,000
Tonight and every Wednesday night the Twin Tri Jackpot is forced out. Last
week the jackpot was an all-all-all for anyone that selected the first half
correctly. Not bad! The Jackpot begins at over $10,000 in the matinee and it
could spill over into tonight's races offering a nice size jackpot. The Twin
Trifecta is played in races 11 & 13. Best of luck to everyone.
Wednesday night
Race 2: Cynthia Smoot could be a third littermate to score a distance win
tonight. Last night her sisters crossed first in their heats. Wanna Rumble
blew the field away from the start and finished five lengths in front.
Beautiful N Red was just as pretty in black and yellow when she went box to
wire wrapping up the Tuesday races over the betting favorite El Passion.
Race 6: Silver Chestnut, whose win streak was stopped at four straight, is
posted well on the rail and should begin a new streak. Law's Titan who moved
back to the top grade after a nine-length romp in B last week could give
another impressive performance. Flying Nirvana is also a major threat.
Race 8: This high caliber top grade distance race features a rematch between
Diamond Stacy and St. Pete Derby winner Greys Touch Gold. Last Saturday
night Stacy upset Gold with a box to wire run. Rainingonsunday who also
turned in a box to wire run last week from post six drew the seven box in
this field.
Race 10: Johnny Freedom is rested and ready after a three-month layoff.
Johnny will compete over the 550-yard distance but could be moved to the
660-yd., as some of his littermates have. Last night Johnny's sister Pam
Ford overtook her rival in the homestretch moving her to the top grade. His
brother Pro Jack is featured in race 11.
Race 11: First Half of the Twin Trifecta favors Kaias Sequoyah in post two
and Lamorge Streaker who is seeking four in a row. Pro Jack who has
finished in the trifecta five of his last six starts should light the board
again tonight.
Race 12: Victory King Me is a fine pup from former Southland track record
holder Elway Drive who schooled back last week after being bumped around his
previous start. King Me drew the rail post and will be lethal if he gets the
front. CTW Twang Thang is a box-breaker that could get in King's way if
Thang jumps to a quick start.
Race 13: Back Half of the Twin Trifecta. If you cashed in race 11 then you
are halfway to cashing with the right combination. Kiowa Muse who is seeking
four in a row will get a lot of play in this race but the young pup will
face veterans like kennelmate Kiowa Manley and the fast-footed Brother
Derek. The three could be the winning combination.

Holland's Jack's pups school tonight
New pups school again tonight from the Cal Holland kennel. Michael Cassidy
has sent in a group sired by Derby Lane's former 2006 Flashy Sir recipient
Extruding Dream. The first batch of the former champ's pups is showing well
and some are already in the top grade for the Magic City kennel.
Cassidy has sent top grade athletes in the past with the Leta's prefix. The
mother of his newest group is Leta's Superstar. Many of the pups have
already circled the oval once. The litter is Jack's Beauty, Jack's Cadillac,
Jack's Ferrari, Jack's Rocket, Jack's Shadow and Jack's Thunder. Best of
luck to Cal Holland and Michael Cassidy on your newest group.
Tuesday night notes:
Race 3: Alderson kennel debuts Singing Blonde who won two of her three
schoolers. She will be a favorite in her first official start. RJ's Cabrillo
who has been jumping out on top but falling short in the homestretch could
move out maiden tonight in her ninth official trip around the oval.
Race 4: Flying Midnite who holds the season's faster over the longer
distance is the class of the field. Despite her five box, Midnite should
score the win.
Race 6: This top grade field favors TMC's Trail Boss to rocket out on top
from box four. Lamorge Aces Up could challenge him from post eight-the same
post he won from in his last start.
Race 8: Kay Buffalo Bill has the rail pole and although he bas been left out
of the program selections, He should fare well from here. Irish Angel's
signature box-breaking start could cut Bill off is Angel gets in front of
him.
Race 9: As mentioned above, Dream Warrior is an Extruding Dream pup that won
his last start that moved him into this grade B race. Warrior is among a
host of seasoned runners. Tonight marks Warrior's seventh official trip
around the oval.
Race 10: The top McAllister is doubled up again in this grade A field. TK
Lone Ranger and Lamorge Raise are both seeking the hat trick. Flyn
Secretariat and Kiowa Robin are the McAllister pair that hope to halt both
streaks.
Race 12: Evening Blossom and her littermates have also generated interest
this meet. Blossom is from a repeat breeding of Maryville Rumble* x Valoris
that produced last year's All-American Dreamy Blossom. Evening Blossom makes
her eighth trip around the 550-yard oval. She is one race from the top
grade. Chicago Belle who has over 80 career starts could keep Blossom from
moving to A tonight.
Race 14: Seaquest is a fan favorite and a real trooper. At over four years
old Seaquest is still competing strong against his younger rivals. Greys
South Gate has been installed as the favorite, but I think my old friend
will give 'em a run for the money.

Stars shine brightest on Saturday

This weekend's races are full of talent, but it would be tough to ignore the
power packed Saturday night card that includes the return of last year's
national champion Flying Bridgeport.
Saturday matinee features a tune up to the night card with Silver Chestnut
doing for five in a row over the 550-yard course. The Charter kennel top
grade runner is on a roll and is the early favorite to win race ten. DE's
Spun is looking for her fourth win in five starts as well as Flying
Swindler. The pair could give a one-two punch from the top McAllister
kennel.
Saturday Night features last season's top dog and season's fastest Red Dirt
Road who kicks off the top grade competition in race six. Starz Missa has
been shipped from Tri State in WV to see how she stacks up against the top
grade athletes.
Two races later Flyin Bridgeport returns to the distance oval after a
three-week layoff. Bridgeport will face off with Derby winner Greys Touch
Gold in race eight.
Flying Macbeth who is streaking with five in a row will be the favorite in
race ten. Macbeth will match strides with Furion who is seeking the hat
trick in race ten.
Don't forget to mark your calendars to Friday night August 8 for a chance to
take home cash. We will draw eight winners for cash. How much cash is
distributed will depend on the finish of the number eight greyhounds in
races one through eight.
