Vera Filipelli:

Vera Filipelli, a 30-year veteran of the sport, has worked at Greyhound tracks in WV, WI and FL. She also trained and managed a racing kennel. Filipelli is an avid campaigner for greyhound adoption and is a volunteer for Greyhound Pets of America-the largest greyhound adoption group in the US.

Filipelli joined the Derby Lane staff in 1995 as one of the hosts of Post Time-the track's nightly TV show. In addition to her daily responsibilities, she is a company spokeswoman, a local newspaper correspondent and a monthly contributor to the National Greyhound Review Magazine in America. Filipelli was recognized as the most prolific racetrack publicist in 2003 by the magazine. She has been published in Ireland, England and Australia. Vera is a member of the NGA and Greyhound Hall of Fame in Abilene, KS. She has written and produced videos to honor human and greyhound inductees.

In 2004 Filipelli joined the AGTOA's Night of Stars broadcast as a color analyst. The American Greyhound Track Operators Association funds the simulcast charity show that raises thousands of dollars for greyhound adoption annually. In addition, Vera has been a guest at the prestigious Irish Greyhound Derby at Shelbourne Park in Dublin.

Filipelli aided in Derby Lane scenes for "Breed All About It, Greyhounds" for Discovery Channel's Animal Planet, Oceans 11, and baseball's Carl Crawford who showcased his base stealing speed. ,

In the community Filipelli served as President of her neighborhood association, a member of the Citizens Advisory Committee for the Metropolitan Planning Commission for Pinellas County and a former President of Friends of Weedon Island Preserve.

Vera has two grown daughters, a grandaughter, and a racing greyhound.
